Nikon Releases Updated Lens Roadmap for Mirrorless Z Series

Nikon Releases Updated Lens Roadmap for Mirrorless Z Series

As Nikon's mirrorless line is still in its infancy, you might be wondering what lenses you can expect from the company in the coming months and years. Nikon just released their latest lens roadmap, indicating that the company expects to have 23 lenses in its Z series lineup by the end of the next few years.

Check out the updated lens roadmap below:

The roadmap varies slightly from the original one, but if you've not seen either before, it's a helpful look at what you can expect from the Z series, particularly if you're considering buying into the lineup and wondering if the lenses you need will be covered. For the time being, it looks like Nikon's main focus is relatively quickly releasing the most common lenses photographers need, with the more esoteric glass likely hiding in the TBA slots in 2020 and 2021, though there are a few slightly more unusual lenses in the 2019 column.

Either way, it's nice to see that Nikon plans to really fill out the lens lineup in the next few years, and while we don't know what half of the lenses will be, just seeing 23 slots indicates that most photographers will likely have all they need should they choose to go the Z series route.

I'm looking forwards to testing this camera out with a new 24-70 and 70-200.

Looking forward to 2025 when we can make a reasonable comparison between all of the players in the market.

I wish they had prioritized that 50 1.2, especially over the much less practical noct.

Wow that 20mm f/1.8 is gonna be a long wait.

I am a little disappointed with the 24-70 being f/4, and not 2.8, or even f/2 like Canons. Why? The smaller size is the only reason I can think of.
New 70-200 sounds exciting though.

...23 lenses in its Z series lineup by the end of the next few years.

What a timeline for a company to come out with. The end of the next few years is a pretty open ended statement.

I plan on becoming famous by the end of the next few decades lol.
