Tamron Announces Two New Lenses for Full-Frame DSLRs: 35mm f/1.4 and 35-150mm f/2.8-4

Tamron Announces Two New Lenses for Full-Frame DSLRs: 35mm f/1.4 and 35-150mm f/2.8-4

Today, Tamron is announcing their plans to release two new lenses for full-frame DSLRs in mid-2019.

35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD

This wide-to-telephoto 35-150mm zoom lens covers most of the portraiture focal range, all with a decent f/2.8-4 variable aperture. Inside the lens features low dispersion glass and aspherical elements to correct for optical aberrations. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 17.7 inches across the range.

As the full name points to, this zoom lens is made for full-frame or crop-sensor camera bodies (Di), has vibration compensation (VC), and utilizes Tamron's Optimized Silent Drive (OSD). In addition, Tamron mentions that the 35-150mm uses a Dual Micro-Processing Unit for improving autofocus performance and the vibration compensation.

SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD

Tamron did not disclose much detail about the upcoming 35mm f/1.4, other than to say it will feature "high-speed, high-precision autofocus functionality" and "various other features." I suppose at this point, what new is there to say when it comes to one of the more saturated lens choices on the market.

At least from the naming, we know that this 35mm will be part of Tamron's Super Performance (SP) series of lenses. It will also work for full-frame and APS-C DSLR cameras, and will feature an Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) for autofocusing.

Both the 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD and SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD lenses are expected to launch in the middle of 2019, with pricing still to be determined. If you're attending CP+ or WPPI in the coming weeks, Tamron will have these on display for a closer look.

35-150mm, that sounds amazing.

Ha I just bought the Tamron 45. Cant lie Tamron is kickin ass right now with those VC primes.

The 35-150mm could potentially lighten my bag for hiking as I would be down to a 16-35mm, and this. It will be worth a consideration.

Definitely an interesting lens. Wonder if this paves the way for something a little wider such as a 24-100 f/2.8?

I was always wondering why we do not have 50-150mm since that would be a great portrait lens. This lens is even wider and at f/4 at the max focal length it is perfect.

I personally try to avoid going below f/2.8 when doing portraits, especially on closeups. At f/4 at 100-150mm will still gives great shallow depth of field.

Anyone know when the aperture changes along the focal range of the 35-150mm? Would love to see 2.8 all the way to 100mm but doubt that's the case.
