$27,000 Worth of Leica and Hasselblad Gear Stolen From The Camera Store

$27,000 Worth of Leica and Hasselblad Gear Stolen From The Camera Store

Over the last few years, there have been a number of significant burglaries. Sadly, another has occurred, this time at Calgary-based store The Camera Store, with over $27,000 of stock missing.

The Camera Store, who have amassed nearly 300,000 followers on YouTube thanks to their camera tests and reviews, were broken into over the weekend. As for the damage, approximately $35,000 CAD ($27,000) of equipment has been taken, consisting mostly of Leica and Hasselblad cameras and lenses.

According to CBC, the robbery occurred in the early hours of Saturday, with the burglar(s) gaining entry by prying open the shop shutters, before smashing windows and display cases in order to access the shop’s camera stock.

Among the stock missing was a Leica MP Safari Edition camera — green in color, and a limited-edition piece, with just 1,500 made. Also missing was an $8,000 Hasselblad X1D and three Hasselblad XC lenses (30mm, 45mm, 90mm). The serial numbers are #09008593, #UQ27014288, #2WV10784, #2UVT10447, and #2VVT10265, respectively.

A member of store staff said, “This theft seems very targeted since specific items were taken,” noting other equipment worth over $80,000 was left behind. “We hope that someone in the local photo community will hear something about this.”

A shopping spree reward of $5,000 CAD ($3,800) is being offered to anyone with information that leads to a conviction of the thieves.

Updates on Twitter show an Edmonton listing is being investigated after trying to sell the same three lenses.

$27,000. So...one Hasselblad (sale price) and no lens to go with it? ;-)

...I'm thinking it was just the lens cap that got stolen.

selective criminals with expensive tastes. they will probably get busted because now they have to buy a charger and batteries for it and they can trace it back to them. they should have stuck to nikon or canon.

You're telling me that a camera store...doesn't have security cameras? lol..smh with that kind of equipment?

Who says they didn't? I actually shop there and I can tell you that their security is quite good. Idiotic comment to boot. How would a camera prevent a smash and grab? Transformer itself down? Took less than 5mins to get in and out, even police reaction time would have not gotten there in time.
Needless to say, the two donkeys 60yr old man and a 36yr old were caught today trying to sling the gear on Kijiji. Pretty dumb

Chan Ching Chong chill lol If they do they will find the gear then. The security can't be that good if the equipment was stolen. The security failed eh?

I heard the police found and returned the items. This will be a Merry Christmas to them.

Undercover police caught the thief, who offered the Hasselblad gear online, at a local mall. The Leica MP Safari edition was not recovered.
