How to Connect With Your Portrait Subjects

You can have all the camera technique, lighting ability, and post-processing savvy, but if you are not able to connect with your portrait subjects, you are going to have immense difficulties creating compelling photos. If that is something you struggle with, check out this fantastic video that features a seasoned portrait photographer discussing how to better connect with your subjects.

Coming to you from Daniel Norton Photographer, this great video discusses how to make stronger connections with your portrait subjects. This is something a lot of photographers struggle with, especially those of us who are on the more introverted side. As a lot of the best portrait photographers will tell you, though, their job is more psychology than it is photography. Being able to remove the barrier of the camera and reduce your subject's anxiety is a skill all in itself. One thing that can help if you are working on feeling comfortable conversing with your subjects is to simply memorize some icebreakers to get the talking flowing and reduce the conversational pressure in the moment. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Norton.
